Ewha newly installed unmanned parking fee machines which have taken effect starting Nov. 4. Unmanned parking fee machines will now settle parking fees without man-power – parking fees can be paid either in cash or credit card through the machine.
The Office of General Administration (OGA) installed machines to replace the old system, where toll-takers had to manually collect fees and lift the bar.
The change was inevitable especially in the Ewha-Shinsegae Building, Ewha-Samsung International House and Ewha-Samsung Education Culture Building due to malfunctioning machines.
“The old machines in these three buildings were barely working, and the company that manufactured these machines was almost facing bankruptcy, so it was hard to get them repaired,” said Kim Young-hwan, an official from the OGA.
In the new system, the person in charge will solve any occuring problems through the camera and intercom which are installed in the machine. Officers will constantly patrol and manage the parking lots to see if there is any problem.
According to the OGA, the new unmanned parking fee settlement system brings more efficiency.
“We run this new system to make parking fee settlement without men power,” Kim said. “Also, due to the enablement of remote controlling, toll-takers can work inside in a more comfortable environment.”
The new machines are installed at Ewha-Shinsegae Building, Ewha-Samsung International House, Ewha-Samsung Education Culture Building, North A-hyeon Gate, Back Gate and the newly built Ewha University-Industry Collaboration Building. The machine located at the Back Gate only operates from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.
