Fudan University, located in Shanghai, is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in China. The university is a member of the C9 League and Universitias 21.
Fudan University is composed of four campuses, including Handan, Fenglin, Zhangjiang, and Jiangwan. I study and live in the Handan Campus, the main campus of Fudan, which is located in Yangpu District, Shanghai. This campus contains the majority of the schools and departments. All the freshmen undergraduates live in this campus.
Despite the reputation, the campus itself is not as beautiful as the campus of Ewha or that of other universities, but this does not change the fact that Fudan is one of the best universities in Shanghai.
As one of the national topmost institutions of advanced learning and higher education, Fudan has achieved worldwide fame throughout its venerable past. Its institutional predecessor was founded in 1905, shortly before the end of China’s imperial Qing dynasty.
“Fudan” found its lexical origin in the quotation “heavenly light shines day after day” taken from the “Annotations of Yu and Xia” of Scholia of The Collection of Archaic Texts.
Fudan consists of 28 schools and departments, with 70 undergraduate disciplines. The university confers bachelor’s degrees in 70 academic disciplines and master’s degrees in 229 disciplines, with 51 of them established by the University itself. Also, there are doctoral degrees in 24 Level I and 154 Level II academic disciplines, with 30 of them established by the University itself. Additionally, there are 29 research stations that offer postdoctoral fellowships. I am a junior in Korean Language and Literature under the Foreign Language College.
Fudan now has an enrollment of 26,362 full-time degree candidates. Another 18,664 are studying at the schools of Continuing Education and Online Education.
Moreover, the University’s population of foreign students is 3,633 today, ranking front nationally.
Fudan University also has a high-level research faculty of over 2,400 full-time teachers and researchers, including 1,350 professors and associate professors, 30 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, nearly 660 doctoral supervisors, 26 special professors and two lecture professors of “Cheungkong Scholars Program,” three distinguished professors and 10 special professors of Fudan University, six principal scientists of Project 973 and 25 “Young Experts with Prominent Contributions to the Country.”
Fudan University has established exchange relationships with more than 200 universities and research institutions in about 30 countries and regions. That is why I am here in Ewha, enjoying my experience  as a exchange student.
I also heard from my friends that 60 students under the Chinese Language Department in Ewha will go to Fudan for an exchange program next semester. This is the largest, both in number and scale, international exchange program of its kind in the history of Fudan University. I sincerely wish the entire Ewha students to have an extraordinary exchange student experience in Fudan.
The exchange program between the two universities is a bond to trigger a wider wave of cultural interaction among yound people in Korea and China.
Undoubtedly, in the near future, the world will witness a renaissance of East Asian culture, with the tightened relationship between our two nations.
