It is crucial to prioritize physical and mental well-being, especially in college, a time where many new responsibilities and opportunities preoccupy students. To assist in prioritizing health and wellness, Ewha currently operates various service centers and provides diverse resources for all students.

The University Health Service Center, located on the second floor of the Human Ecology Building (Morris Hall), provides free primary medical care for students and faculty. As Ewha Womans University’s official on-campus health center, it strives to aid students in carrying out a healthy college life by preventing the spread of diseases and the exacerbation of symptoms.

Medical examinations and the administration of necessary medications or treatments are done free of charge for Ewha students, excluding a few certain injections and dressing procedures. Students can get vaccinated for hepatitis A, hepatitis B, chickenpox, seasonal influenza, HPV9, and more after signing up online via their website.

Students visiting the University Health Service Center have repeatedly expressed their gratitude for the staff, proving the essential role the centerplays in ensuring Ewha students a healthy academic journey.

One anonymous student sent the center a heartfelt comment after receiving medical care to relieve her menstrual cramps. The student mentioned that when she had to leave in the middle of class due to a terrible stomach pain, the University Health Service Center staff provided her with the appropriate examination and prescriptions, while also staying by her side to make sure her pain was under control.

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude toward the staff member that stayed even after their work hours to make sure I was feeling better,” she said. “I was having a hard time since I am living alone in Seoul for college, and I am so thankful for the way the center’s staff member took care of me like an older sister would.”

Exchange students and international students can also visit the University Health Service Center to receive medical attention.

Mery Kate De Jesus Moreno Acosta, a freshman from the Division of International Studies, has visited the University Health Service Center twice during her time at Ewha. After experiencing normal cold symptoms, she decided to visit the center instead of spending extra money on medicine from an off-campus doctor’s office or pharmacy.

“The doctor spoke English, which made my appointment go smooth and easy,” Acosta said. “The overall process was very quick, and I was able to get the medical attention I needed without any trouble.”

Another on-campus service center assisting in maintaining the well-being of Ewha’s student body is the Student Counseling Center. It provides individual and group counseling, as well as psychological assessment services to students of Ewha, free of charge. Students can make appointments by registering online via Eureka.

Students are also able to improve their quality of life through continuous physical exercise easily attainable with the assistance of the ECC Fitness Center. The ECC Fitness Center provides a one- on-one personal training program, not to mention small-group training including yoga, pilates, boxing, and weightlifting classes. Screen golf and sports climbing lessons are also available.

Many students at Ewha experience pain from anterior head syndrome, herniated discs, and scoliosis, due to spending long hours sitting and studying. Students planning to study for the national examinations also often wish to increase their stamina to help reduce fatigue and exhaustion. The ECC Fitness Center consults each student and recommends the right exercise routines and programs for them. Students are able to see results such as boosts in their immune system, reduced stress, and increased stamina after more than just three months of regular exercise.

The personal trainers at the ECC Fitness Center revealed many instances where students experienced positive results after regular exercise. One student who began personal training sessions when she was struggling with both her physical and mental health, was able to not only improve on both significantly, but also graduate from her master’s program with high honors. Students also often express that they look forward to the ECC Fitness Center’s program and that going exercising always excites them.
