The Ewha Volunteer Center (EVC) will host “Making Kimchi with Love” event at Students’ Cafeteria in Human Ecology Building on Nov. 7 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. A total of 200 Ewha students, 30 faculty members and 20 volunteers from Seodaemun-gu office will participate in the event.
The event will start with an opening speech by Ewha president Choi Kyung-hee. Arranged by the EVC, “Making Kimchi with Love” has been an annual event since 2001. The purpose of the event is to remind students of the Ewha spirit: sharing and respecting each other through helping neighbors.
With total amount of 3500 kilograms, the EVC plans to distribute 10 kilograms of kimchi for every 350 households, including the elderly people who are living by themselves, low income households and the disabled in Seodaemun-gu.
As the event is held to encourage more students in volunteering activities, the EVC hopes the participants can find meaningful messages during the event.
“Under the theme of ‘Beautiful World with Ewha,’ ‘Making Kimchi with Love’ is a traditional event in which we all share Ewha’s spirit with the local community,” said Yoo Je-wook, an official from the EVC who is in charge of the event. “We look forward to many Ewha students participating in this event.”
Students expect the event to be worthwhile in helping people in need.
“I think the event is meaningful in that it gathers not only Ewha students but also faculty members,” Kim Hye-won (Television & Film, 2) said. “Throughout the event, it would be great to remind Ewha’s spirit of love. Plus, the process of making kimchi sounds interesting.”
The EVC is gathering student volunteers from Oct. 13 to 19 through the Eureka portal site. Along with “Making Kimchi with Love” event, the EVC is organizing charity funds for youth living in Seodaemun-gu.
