Schools take actions to relieve problem

With the serious situation at hand, universities are putting efforts to implement measures as well as specific programs to relieve the problem.
Programs such as Meme Check Cloud and Copy Killer are two most prominent systems that catch plagiarized phrases and sentences. They are available for professors to use. Seoul National University, Yonsei University, Korea University, and Sung kyunkwan University have implemented Meme Check Cloud.
Ewha, Kyung Hee University, Pohang University of Science and Technology, Sookmyung Women’s University have implemented Copy Killer in 2012 and Sogang University, Dongguk University, Chonbuk National University, and Chungbuk National University in 2013. In addition, another program called E-learning system shows how much students have plagiarized as a percentile.
Although various plagiarism detecting programs are present, students feel the need for school to elevate students’ awareness on the issue by putting more effort into informing and educating students about the consequences of plagiarism.
“Applying more programs to detect plagiarism is essential,” Lee Seul Ki (International Studies, 2) said.
