The visit of Queen Silvia will take place in the form of luncheon organized by Ewha President Kim Sun-uk. President Kim, Queen Silvia, and selected Korean female leaders will discuss the topics of women policy, women welfare, and other subjects related to developing female roles in society.
Originally visiting Korea in support of the 2012 Yeosu Expo, the Queen was said to have shown interest in Ewha, thus fitting the visit to Ewha campus within her three-day itinerary in Korea. As approximately half of the Swedish Cabinet is made up of female figures, Ewha looks forward to Queen Silvia’s visit.
Queen Silvia is the Queen consort of King Carl Xvi Gustaf. She is a leading female model in that before marriage, she worked with the Organizing Committee for the Munich Olympic Games. Then, Queen Silvia became the Deputy Head of Protocol for the Organizing Committee for the Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria. Also having worked as an interpreter in the past, Queen Silvia speaks six different languages including Swedish, German, English, French, Spanish and Portuguese.
“Queen Silvia’s visit to Ewha will be an opportunity where significant female figures share their ideas and perspectives on increasing female roles in contemporary society,” said Cheon Mi-heon, a member of the Office of Communications.
