Ewha celebrates its anniversary by holding the 126th Anniversary Ceremony of Ewha on May 31 at 10:00 a.m. in the Welch-Ryang Auditorium, followed by the Ewha Campus Complex (ECC) Valley Concert at 11:45 a.m.
The ceremony will begin with a prayer by the head chaplain Chung Yong-seok, and an opening ceremony will be delivered by President Kim Sun-uk. The Ewha Orchestra performs Brahms’ “Hungarian Dance, No. 6,” conducted by professor Sung Ki-sun (Orchestral Music).
The Academic Reward, the Official Commendations, and Proud Ewha Fellow Award will be awarded at the ceremony as well.
This year, the Proud Ewha Fellow Award is given to Kim Yung-hee (’64, English) who is a professor of Korean Literature and the director of the Center for Korean Studies at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
Kim receives the Proud Ewha Fellow Award for her contribution in spreading and developing Korean Studies, especially in foreign countries. As the only Korean female professor abroad in the field of Korean Literature, Kim has spent more than 20 years in the United States as a professor.
After the anniversary ceremony, the College of Music holds a concert at the ECC valley for approximately 40 minutes.
The Korean Music Ensemble, which consists of 54 undergraduate students and three professors, will play the Daechita, a traditional marching song played in the Chosun Dynasty, while proceeding from the Welch-Ryang Auditorium to the ECC valley.
At the ECC valley, the Korean Music Orchestra will perform its program which includes “Cheonnyeon Manse,” “Pansori,” and “Samulnori” with Korean musical instruments such as geomungo and gayakum, which are the Korean traditional string instruments.
