The Ewha Law Alumnae Association and Ewha Office of University Relations and Development (OURD) began to provide free legal counseling service for the students, faculties, and Ewha alumnae. The members of the Ewha Law Alumnae Association (ELAA) had the service’s opening ceremony at the Lee Sam-Bong Hall in the Ewha Campus Complex on Sept. 19.
This free legal counseling service is the initiating act of the Ewhain’s Talent Donation Project which shares the theme of “Non Nobis Solum,” a Latin phrase stating “Not for ourselves alone.” The 24 volunteer members from the ELAA will provide practical advices in different areas of legal situations, including civil and criminal cases along with necessary legal procedures to the inquirers.
The ELAA wanted to make use of their knowledge of law by sharing them with Ewha alumnae; this led to the initiation of the talent-sharing project with OURD.
“Rather than mere talent share, it is more of an act of giving back what I received from my alma mater,” said Cheon Jeong-ah (’98, Law), the manager of the general affairs at the ELAA who currently works for the Law Firm Daon. “We want to give help to the Ewha family and hope that many people make best use of this service so the Ewhain’s Talent Donation Project can also make a great success.”
The legal counseling service will be provided in both offline and online. The students who wish to receive face-to-face legal counseling from the advisors may schedule an appointment on Mondays between 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. by sending an e-mail ewha21@ewha.ac.kr or by placing a call at (02) 3277-2926. Those will meet with the advisors at the scheduled time and place. For online services, students can post questions on the anonymous bulletin board at the Alumnae Network Portal Web site (http://www.ewhain.net) and receive feedbacks from the advisors.
The school expects this legal advising service to be the starting point of Ewha’s talent-sharing project by attracting other professions to participate as well.
“Ewhain’s Talent Donation Project’ is an extension of Ewha’s founding philosophy, ‘serving and sharing,’” the Ewha President Kim Sun-uk said at the speech during the opening ceremony. “Acquiring knowledge in university and developing one’s ability should not only be for oneself but ultimately for the community and the society. It is proud to see Ewha alumnae who understand this meaning so well, using their expertise in their position for the community and the society.”
