Ewha’s Concert for Peace supports end to war in Ukraine

 

Concert for Peace, a small gathering hosted by the College of Music as a means to wish for peace in Ukraine, held lunchtime concerts every weekday in front of the Russian Embassy starting from March 21. Professor Bai Il- hwan who believes in the positive influence of music to shine a bright light on social issues led the concert.

 

Dior’s first-ever runway show in Korea held at Ewha Womans University

 

French luxury fashion house Christian Dior signed a partnership agreement with Ewha to jointly foster the next generation of women leaders by sharing visions in women’s empowerment, creativity, and innovation. As part of the cooperation, Dior staged its Fall 2022 collection fashion show at Ewha on April 30, marking its first- ever runway show in Korea.

 

Return of in-person Daedong festival: RE:WHA rewrites the Ewha Green Moment

 

The 136th Daedong festival RE:WHA was held in-person for the first time in three years from Sept. 14 to Sept. 16. Under the theme of rewriting the Ewha Green moments, students enjoyed the festival in hopes of revitalizing the school spirit of Ewha Green. Thousands of students lined up in front of over 160 booths across the campus to eat, shop, and participate.

Ewha students majoring in Sculpture held the exhibition BREATH of YOU & ME too in order to uphold the protection of women’s rights. Putting their major at work, the event was organized to show the students’ disapproval of the return of the professor who had been exposed and faced trial over several sexual harassment charges.

With the rise of Metaverse, individuals have been enjoying the platform as a new avenue for interaction and communication. However, some recent incidents reveal its dark side of being vulnerable to abuse, especially sexual violence.

 

We are not victims: Paving the path for climate justice

 

This September, over 35,000 people gathered in the Gwanghwamun area from all over the country to call for climate justice. With over 400 organizations in solidarity for a common cause, the Climate Justice March was one of the largest organized marches for climate action in Korea.

Why are dating shows so popular?

 

With more than 25 shows being broadcasted in 2022, dating shows are showing significant popularity. The viewers, especially young adults, are expressing interest towards such reality dating shows as they can easily empathize with the ordinary cast and familiar issues on the show.

 

Pride with a purpose: Queer content on the rise in Korean media

 

Queer representation in Korean media has made significant gains, and this recent increase of queer contents has also made waves at Ewha. The school’s promotionalYouTube video club, “EWHA With U” filmed a queer web drama called, “Dear My Girl Friend,” which reached 9 million views onYouTube.

A whole new world: Experiences of Third Culture Kids

 

Three third culture kids at Ewha shared their experiences living in disparate countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, India, and the United States. Ryu Seo-yeon, Kim Euny, and Kim Chae-eun disclosed their untold struggles and fondest memories that shaped who they are.

 

What polarized elections mean for democracy across the world

 

Political polarization is worsening to the point where it is affecting election results. Professor Jongkon Lee explained the impacts of polarization on politics, particularly within the United States. Meanwhile, French students expressed their thoughts on the French presidential election outcomes.

 

The Reign of Toxic Masculinity

 

Ewha Voice interviewed three students to hear their takes on the impact of toxic masculinity
in youths. Lee Chae-yeon, Lucy Bollinger, and Ethan Chanllender shared their personal encounters with toxic masculinity and described how social media plays a significant role in spreading its ideals.

The future of healthcare is female: Femtech industry innovating women’s healthcare

 

Despite its importance, women’s health has been historically neglected, underserved, and underfunded. To explore the astounding progress femtech industry has made to support women’s healthcare needs, Ewha Voice took a two-week trip to New York City, the center of the femtech industry. Elektra Health, Femtec Health, Business of the V, Union Square Ventures, and SAIB & Co. elaborated on significant changes the femtech industry brings to women’s health and stressed the need for further discussion regarding women’s health.

 

Cries for women’s rights on college campuses in the United States: Struggles after Roe v. Wade overturned

 

After the Supreme Court of the United States finalized its decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, a deluge of protests against the ruling have been organized across the United States. Ewha Voice went on a two-week trip to Washington D.C., NewYork City, and Boston to hear the courageous initiatives made by students in Georgetown University, George Washington University, Columbia University, and Boston University.

ZEPETO, a metaverse platform specializing in the creation and personalization of user- customized three-dimensional avatars, allows users to design their own content. JangYu-ju, who also goes by the name ZEMZEM as a ZEPETO creator, embarked on this fresh, groundbreaking career.

The critically acclaimed musical “King Arthur” is a modern reinterpretation of the story of the ancient legend of Arthur. The role of Morgane was played out by Hong Ryoon-hee, an alumna of Ewha Womans University, and Hong reminisced on her journey since the start of her career.

As of 2022, about 2.5 million ASMR videos are uploaded onYouTube by more than 500,000 ASMRtists. YoonYoon-ju, an alumna of Ewha Keyboard Instruments and Fashion Industry, shared her story as an ASMRtist running the YouTube channel “Judy asmr” since 2017.
