The Chinese Scholars Students Association in Korea (CSSAK) has chosen the Chinese Ewha Students Association as the best ranking Chinese student union in Korea. The honor is given to a student union that helps international students to adapt to life in Korea and works with the school to improve education and daily life of students by providing a variety of services.
Founded in 1993, the CSSAK aims to strengthen its relationships among Chinese scholars and foster cultural exchanges between Chinese and Korean students. With branches established at over 100 universities in Korea, the CSSAK is the largest group of foreign students in Korea.
For CSSAK’s 2016 Spring Training session on March 19, the group held a meeting at Ewha with Embassy of the People’s Republic of China’s Education Councilor Ai Hong Ge, Education Secretary Yu Yong Quan and nearly 150 students to discuss education for Chinese students abroad and celebrate the Chinese Ewha Student Association being chosen as the best Chinese student union.
The main reason the Chinese Ewha Students Association has been awarded the Outstanding Student Union Cadres Awards is the diverse services Ewha provides to international students. Regarding Chinese students, the school has increased the number of Chinese professors, staff and teaching assistants in order to overcome language barriers. Furthermore, the Chinese Ewha Students Association hosts events that bring foreign students together such as the annual New Year’s party with CSSAK.
In addition, Ewha plans to cooperate with the Chinese government to establish a scholarship system to provide financial aid for hardworking students. Also, the school hopes to establish a cultural connection between the Chinese and Korean students by building a Chinese cultural center in the new dormitory.
Furthermore, the Chinese Ewha Students Association has plans to host a variety of activities that will help Chinese students get used to life in Korea.
“We are preparing for our annual Chinese debate,” said Jin Lin Ting, the president of the Chinese Ewha Students Association. “We achieved satisfactory results last year and we hope to do so this year as well.”
She added that she would appreciate it if many students would take more interest in the Chinese Ewha Students Association.
“If Chinese students need help of any kind, the Chinese Ewha Student Association would be more than pleased to do everything we can,” Jin said.
