The Ewha Womans University Library repaired and added more facilities to its Reading Rooms and cafeteria from May 31 to June 2. After the remodeling during winter vacation, the library recognized the need for additional repair and arranged a construction to start on May 31, in order to minimize students’ inconvenience by doing the work on Ewha’s 127th anniversary and during the weekends.
The construction was completed in two places: the Reading Rooms in the basement floor and the cafeteria.
In the Reading Room, the library installed more lights on single seat desks.
Before the installation, students complained about writing posts on Ewha Portal’s free board that the lighting for single seat desks was not bright enough for studying.
Thus, the library installed one more row of lighting system over single seat desks. The entire Reading Room was not available for students during the construction period due to the noise and dust from the construction.
Also, construction in the cafeteria was followed for students’ further convenience as well. The noise and smell from the cafeteria, a place where students take a break and eat food, troubled several students in the Reading Rooms located right next to it. Thus, the Library installed a glass door to keep the noise and smell inside, so that it would not distract students from using Reading Rooms in the basement floor.
The construction lasted for three days, ending on June 2. About the repairment, students expressed satisfaction and gratitude toward the library’s further efforts to improve its facilities.
