Approximately 300 tourists on weekdays and 500 on weekends visit Ewha. The main attraction is the Ewha Campus Complex (ECC), especially for Chinese visitors, many of whom believe in the superstition that the university’s name, “Ewha,” pronounced similar to the Chinese word “lifa,” meaning “profitable,” will bring them fortune if they visit the campus and take pictures. Furthermore, Ewha is described in Chinese guidebooks as a place where visitors can shop for a variety of products and sightsee the beautiful campus. Others, including aspiring and professional architects, also visit the ECC, mesmerized by the unique architecture designed by the French architect Dominique Perrault. Nearly 3.5 thousand middle and high school students also visit Ewha each year through campus tour programs.
