Ewha signed an agreement with MGM (Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer) to facilitate exchange between the two organizations at the Ewha-Shinsegae Building on March 6.
Ewha is the first university in Korea to sign a Global Partnership MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with MGM, which marks the start of an interactive collaboration between MGM and Ewha. The MOU was concluded to enhance cooperation between MGM and Korea in MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibition) industry. Also, it was agreed that MGM will provide internship opportunities for Ewha students in the future.
To commemorate the event, the Global Service Management Symposium was held under the theme of “Let’s Talk Global Partnership with MGM,” which also included a panel discussion.
The symposium began with an opening speech by professor Hwang Hae-jin (International Office Administration), the vice president of Korea Convention Society.
After the opening, professor Kim Seong-kook (Business), the dean of Ewha School of Business proceeded the symposium with a welcoming speech.
“Today is a meaningful day, for we combine our scholastic studies with MGM, the world’s largest hospitality and tourism organization,” professor Kim said.
The opening address was followed by a brief introduction of MGM by Michael Dominguez, the senior vice president. Then, the panel discussion was held, where professors and students asked questions on the company’s plan and what MGM believes are qualifications of leaders.
“During recruiting sessions of juniors and seniors, what stood out most were the resumes; we were surprised by how the students managed to do internships and build business experiences while also attending school and performing leaderships roles,” Dominiguez said. “Because your characteristics stand out in college, it shows what kind of person you are.”
“Most of all, I am happy to see students ask a lot of questions,” Dominiguez said. “Being passionate is the start of becoming a qualified leader, just as the Ewha students are.”
