Reading this book feels like secretly reading one's personal diary; in this case, that of Charlie Gordon. Charlie is mentally challenged and abandoned. He finds himself all alone but happy, for he is unaware of all evils in the world. Then one day, he accepts an offer from a medical research center, which promises to make him smarter by brain surgery. The book moves the readers through different mental stages reflective of his progress. However, after reaching the peak of the mountain, one must climb down, and so does Charlie.
