Ewha Archives is holding Special Exhibition in 2012 from May 14. It is held under the title of “Awakening Ewha’s Potential through Extracurricular Activity,” in Ewha Archives Special Exhibition Room until May 2013.
The exhibition unfolds Ewha Hakdang students’ extracurricular activities in the early 1900s through specific explanations and photos of students who were included in particular clubs the exhibition introduces.
From the exhibition, visitors may find out eight activities Ewha’s earlier alumnae might have participated in, which mainly included art communities and religious clubs.
The Special Exhibition in 2012 shows how extracurricular activities helped Ewha Hakdang students obtain academic achievements and learn the ability to embrace their neighborhood and the society they lived in.
“Ewha’s extracurricular activity started with the establishment of Ewha, which means it has a very long history,” an official from Ewha Archives said. “In the 1900s, there were few chances for women to express themselves, but the students of Ewha Hakdang were able to participate in many different activities.”
The Special Exhibition in 2012 provides Ewha students with an extraordinary opportunity to learn from their seniors.
“I was moved to learn that extracurricular activity took a huge portion of Ewha’s history. Furthermore, I was motivated by the early Ewha students who actively participated in many clubs, accomplishing something that cannot be learned in classroom,” Hur Yeo-kyu (English, 3) said.
The exhibition is held on Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. English guide program is also available by Ewha Archives docents from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. during weekdays and all hours on Saturdays.
