If Singapore is to be described in one sentence, it would be this: a gateway between the East and the West, where diverse cultures meet, assimilate and flourish. Indeed, Singapore is a cosmopolitan world- class city that is often ranked side-by-side other world class cities like New York and London. As the fourth leading financial centre in the world, Singapore is a thriving hub of commerce and industry.
Located at the heart of all the action is the Singapore Management University (SMU). It was set up in 2000 with the aim of producing leaders and creative entrepreneurs capable of excelling in a rapidly changing world. It is one of Singapore’s three universities, the other two being National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University.
Despite being only 10 years old, SMU has achieved a high degree of recognition for its academic offerings and of pioneering programs in the fields of business, accountancy, economics, information systems, law and social sciences.
With over 300 staff members, SMU delivers a world-class curriculum to its 7,000 students. Collaborations with leading institutions, including the Wharton School, Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Chicago, allow SMU to draw on academic and research strengths across all major disciplines. Not only does SMU recruit some of the best academics in their fields, but the university also invites business leaders to offer insights into their industries. Therefore, you can expect to receive the highest quality of education at SMU.
SMU provides students with an intellectually challenging and stimulating learning environment. Courses are conducted in a seminar-style format so as to allow a high degree of interaction between students and professors. Class size is deliberately kept small. Expect to engage in a plenty of class participations, discussions and debates, not forgetting hands-on project work and presentations. You will have many opportunities to hone your presentation skills and public speaking skills at SMU.
All courses are taught in English. A wide selection of business, accounting, economics, and law courses are available so you can be assured to find something you are interested in.
The unique city campus is located in the Bras Basah civic district and linked to the Bras Basah train station so you will have easy access to other parts of the city. Surrounded by museums, art galleries and restaurants, you can be caught up in the hustle and bustle of the city, yet remain connected to the historical origins of the district.
The campus has porous structures that engage the surroundings with open courtyards and free-flowing walkways and allow for an easy and natural integration with activities of the city. The campus design and structure reflect and support the character of SMU’s curriculum and its style of teaching. SMU welcomes you!
