A student group to organize cultural events and activities, the Ewha Culture Designers (ECD), will hold Ewha Fall Sports Day at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 26 at the Ewha Athletics Track next to the Main Gate. The ECD is holding a sports event to provide Ewha students with an opportunity to play sports together and thereby share a spirit of unity. About a hundred Ewha students are expected to attend.
“We aim to motivate Ewha students to play sports and promote cooperation among them,” said Kim Ha-jin (Human Movement, 3), the president of the ECD.
The ECD has been holding school events under specific themes  with the sponsorship provided by the Office of Student Affairs since its establishment in 2009, fall semester. The keyword of the Ewha Fall Sports Day is retro.
“We wanted to apply the retro style to the sports day by making it similar to the ones that we had in our elementary school days,” said Kwon Do-youn (Korean, 2), the ECD vice president.
The Ewha Fall Sports Day participants will be divided into four or more teams and play games including: dodge ball, running a relay, and a “breaking a gourd” game, which means to break a big gourd hanging in the air by throwing small balls.
Ewha Fall Sports Day is expected to last about two and half hours, and the most outstanding teams and individual players will be awarded gift cards or other prizes. Dinner and a T-shirt will be provided to all participants.
Any student, including exchange students, can join the event by signing up at the ECD Web site (http://club.cyworld.com/ewhaculturecommunity) or at the ECD booths in the Student Union Building by Sept. 23. For further information, send an e-mail to ewhamoonhwa@gmail.com.
