The Internet has always been the heart of all issues in the Information era. All pieces of information start and become issues through the Internet. The Internet is a great tool to gain all sorts of information anywhere, anytime.
However, in the education field, permitting the Internet as a source of education was a controversy. This is because many teachers and related people such as parents focused on the negative aspects of the Internet. Though many people warn the use of the Internet as a source of education, the Internet is a helpful source in pedagogy due to certain advantages it brings.
First, due to the Internet, students gain chances of good experience. Good experience can be defined as experiencing something unique and uncommon. Through using videos and programs on the Internet, students can experience that they cannot experience.
Second, though many people who restrict the use of the Internet in education claim that many pieces of information from the Internet are not reliable, the point that they have made is hard to understand. They are making a mistake of hasty generalization. Assuming that a specific medium has low quality is wrong. All media have good and bad materials.
Third, people who object to Internet education think that using the Internet makes students passive beings that rely on technology. However, this biased viewpoint comes from looking at the Internet as a monster that governs and controls the users, especially students. In fact, the Internet is just a tool. Regarding the Internet as a tool made by humans, students are most active in the cyberspace.
Lastly, using the Internet as an education source makes students into socially apt people with diversity. The Internet’s most attracting characteristic is diversity. Every day, new programs appear and blog contents show up. All blogs are filled with individuals’ personalities. This makes students look at the relationship of diverse viewpoints.
To sum up, Internet education is needed due to the good experiences, reliable quality, active attitude and diversity it provides. Internet is the key to handle problems in the Information era. Instead of refusing and ignoring it, actively using the Internet and teaching how to use the Internet wisely will be helpful to students.
