Living in your own cocoon

 

 

             “Stand-alone generation” is a segment of individualistic people who choose and enjoy eating, shopping, studying, and spending their free time alone. In a recent survey conducted by the Campus Herald among 120 university students on what they thought of the “stand-alone generation” (nahollo-jok in Korean), 81 percent of the students answered that being part of the “stand-alone generation” is comfortable. So, is this a trend moving toward individualism in the collectivist-rooted Korea? Ewha Voice explores further into the issue by delving into the scenes of Ewha students to analyze how we have come about to this trend, where it is currently standing, and where it is headed to.
