In Greek myth, Talos, who was a giant man of bronze, protected Europa in Crete, circling the island shores three times a day. In Jewish folklore, a rabbi created a golem, an animated being created entirely from inanimate matter, to use as a servant. Even in myths, the human desire to create and control artificial beings for protection or assistance has been widely portrayed. This desire continues to the present day as robots have emerged in our lives, from robot cleaners to robots that aid people with disabilities. With the current government of South Korea promoting the robotics industry as one of its "10 next generation power industries," robots are slowly becoming a part of our lives, whether we realize it or not. At the threshold of the upcoming age of robots, the Ewha Voice took a closer look at where people and robots are standing now, in order to get a glimpse of a future beyond where human intelligence can take us.
