The 2019 Ewha People Make the Beautiful World event officially started on Oct. 28 with six programs planned. This charity event has been annually led by Volunteer Services since 2001 with the purpose of sharing volunteer culture of Ewha.

This year’s programs included a kimchi making session, campaign on knitting hats for newborns, fund-raising for scholarships, open mentoring session, and an exhibition and volunteer fair.

The kimchi making session was held on Nov. 7 at the Human Ecology Building. This is a collaborative event with Seodaemun-gu Office to gather students and volunteers to make kimchi which will be delivered to local social minorities.

The knitting hats for newborns campaign, started on Oct. 28 and is planned to end on Jan. 31. The hats made this year is planned to be sent to Senegal and Ivory Coast.

Volunteer Services also began fund-raising for a scholarship to help youths in Seodaemun-gu. Furthermore, beginning Nov. 4 at the Student Union Building, an exhibition and a volunteer fair opened to introduce and promote the various volunteer programs provided by the school.

Lastly, a special open mentoring session titled “Pathfinder: My Way” was held on Nov. 5 at POSCO Building. The purpose of this session was to hear experiences and advices from graduates on volunteering and finding one’s future career.

“I found out about the volunteer opportunities offered at school through this event a while back,” said Kim Jung-in, a senior from Department of Economics who participated in the event. “I hope students gain more interest and participate in the events because it’s a great opportunity to be part of the community.”
