There was a big issue in DongKuk University in Korea. It was about giving students the rights to view the professor’s rating scores. The purpose of opening the professors’ rating score to students was to give students information about the class ahead of time, so that the students can prepare for the class. In contrast to professors, most of students were very happy about this incident.

Students are the ones who evaluate professors, but why can’t they see what they have rated? Regardless of students giving anonymous name when rating professors, they get scared if the professors would find out who rated the professors with a low mark. The means that even though, rating professors are being done anonymously, the scores being rated by scared students are nothing, but a score on a piece of paper. I believe that it is nobody’s fault, but our education system took away the students’ rights.

What is the main reason for having and going to the University? It is because to make students with competitive advantages so that they can make a better future for our country, Korea and later on, they can make our country into Global Korea with competitive advantages.

When DongKuk University giving eligibility to view the scores for the professors, some of the classes were dismissed due to lack of enrollment; however, this incident is as expected and there got to be many reasons that the students did not enroll the classes.

I have a question for everyone. Why do students need to enroll into the classes being taught by a professors who is not prepared or don’t have competitive advantage when students pay high tuition fee and most of students have very hard time going into the college? There is only one answer for this question. They do not have to. In addition, student don’t like when professors just give them an “A+” even though the students do not deserve an “A+”,because they go to class because to learn.

It is more complicated and strict on rating professors in the United States of America and other European Universities. Universities in these countries usually do not open the rating scores on professors to students; however, there is a very unique site where all of the students can rate their professors and view the results for the professors. Most of the students log in to the site before they register classes and check the results for the professors. After reviewing the results, they pick which class they should take for the semester. Since this site is own and manage by private party, there is no way for any identity of the students to be shared with the school side.

There are only few countries who have this kind of site, such as U.S.A., England, Germany, Brazil, but none for Korea. Korea is number one in information technology in the world, so I thought that I should make one for Korea to have better future for Korea’s education system.

The name of this web site in Korea is SayCampus. The meaning of SayCampus is to “Speak in Campus”, just like the name. The address for this web site is www.saycampus.com . SayCampus has almost every single professor’s name all over in Korea.

There are couple categories for evaluating professors in SayCampus. The students may rate professors on Difficulty, Interest, Helpfulness, Quality, and they may put their earned grade from the class to increase the credibility of what the students have left for the comments for the professor. Score on rating professors can be run from “0” to “5”, “0” being “Very Disappointed, “1” being “Disappointed”, “2” being “ummm……”, “3” being “So-So”, “4” being “Satisfied”, “5” being “Very Satisfied”.

Giving scores will be calculated and also be converted into three different types of emoticon: Yellow Smile Face, Green OK Face, and Red Sad Face”. The graph line will be shown based on the scores given by the student by each semester to see the improvement of the professors and also be categorized by monthly.
