11th Seoul Essay Contest

The Seoul Metropolitan Government invites international residents who would like to share their interests and experiences in Seoul to enter the 11th Seoul Essay Contest.

Qualification: international residents living in Korea or abroad

Participation Category:
- General (college/university students and adults)
- Children & Teenagers (elementary, middle & high school students)

Language: English, Japanese, or Chinese

Topic: “An attractive and clean global city, Seoul”
- Tourist attractions of Seoul: parks, mountains, the Hangang (or the Han River), royal palaces, etc.,
- Diverse festivals & cultural events held in Seoul such as the “Hi Seoul Festival,”
- Daily life, food & people in Seoul,
- Your family’s story about living in Seoul, etc.

Guidelines: Photos complementing your essay should be added.
- Essay: 2~ 4 pages (A4-sized) (English - MS Word, Times New Roman, 12 font, single space, approx. 700 ~ 1,400 words)
- Photo: at least 3 photos and no more than 6 photos per essay, JPG or JPEG
(less than 1024×768 pixels per photo)
- Entries without photos will be excluded from judging.
- No limitation on the number of entries per person.
- The photos accompanying the essay should be clearly identified with the relevant part of the essay. If not, we will organize photos as we please between content of the essay when it is published in the form of an e-book.

Submission Period: Sept. 1 (Sat.) ~ Oct. 1 (Mon., until 6 p.m.), 2007

- Online (The URL will be announced later.) or
- Visit in person or by postal mail (A CD containing files of essay and photos should be included. Mail should be postmarked by Oct. 1, 2007.)

 The number of prizes awarded is subject to change depending on the quality of the entries.
 A certificate signed by the Mayor of Seoul and a one-year subscription of the monthly travel & cultural magazine SEOUL (written in English) will be also given to all winners.
 All winners will be invited to cultural events or city tour programs organized by the Seoul Metropolitan Government.

Announcement of Winners
Winners will be announced through the Web site and notified individually in December, 2007.

Please note:
- All submitted entries will not be returned.
- The Seoul Metropolitan Government has the copyright to all winning essays. (Winning essays will be published as an “e-book” and can be seen at Seoul City’s official Website, Webzine (webzine.seoul.go.kr), and blog sites run by the city government.)
- Any entry that has already won a prize in similar contests by other organizations will be disqualified. If selected, the selection will be canceled and its prize money will be withdrawn.
- All entries should not contain any copyrighted content without permission.
- If legal problems with submitted entries or winning essays occur, the Seoul Metropolitan Government has no responsibility under the law.
